Salvia elegans (pineapple sage)


A shrubby, tender perennial sage commonly grown as an annual for its ornamental value and pineapple aroma. Features ovate, soft, hairy leaves; two-lipped bright scarlet red flowers bloom in loose whorls on terminal spikes from late summer into fall. The flowers are attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Similar in growth and maintenance requirements to garden sage (Salvia officinalis). May be overwintered indoors in a bright but cool site. Deer-tolerant. 3-4'H x 2-3'W. USDA Zones 8-10.
