Mertensia virginica (Virginia Bluebells)

Clump-forming native wildflower that produces its signature blue blooms in very early spring.  Plants can reach 1.5'-2' tall with a spread of 1'-1.5'.  Prefers part to full shade in rich, moist soils.  Because the entire plant dies back by midsummer, bluebells should be planted with annuals or with other perennials that will spread while the bluebells are dormant.
