Introduced in 1862, was the first of the modern large-flowered hybrid clematises of gardens and is still one of our most popular plants today. Prefers full sun to part shade and consistently moist soil. Produces profuse blue-purple blooms approximately 5 to 7 inches in diameter. When trained over a trellis or other support, plants can reach a height of 7 to 10 feet with a spread of 3 to 6 feet.
