Asarum canadense (Wild Ginger)

Though not related to culinary ginger, this shade-loving perennial makes excellent ground cover.  Features petite purple-brown flowers that appear between the two large heart-shaped leaves.  Plants prefer consistent moisture and do not usually grow more than 1 foot tall.
